since 2003, their annual pop-up holiday store has pioneered the way print + digital media outlets show up in the wild. with budget cuts in 2013, they needed a new angle.

Strategy

design a half digital, half physical store display that stops people in their tracks on a busy soho street.

Idea

Wired store, always on.

This high-tech, interactive experience completely reimagined holiday shopping as always-on. For 8 days, this ‘phy-gital’ activation featured Wired editor’s holiday picks in eye-catching physical and interactive displays. Powered by OpenCV facial recognition technology, LEDs and Arduinos, along with a centralized navigation touchscreen, consumers browsed holiday gifts and shared their wish lists with family and friends.
